If you’ve been reading around on the site you’ll notice many different exercises that we provide in order to help you cope (and hopefully crush) your hip pain from running. Many of the exercises that we provide are very yoga-like in nature. With that being said, it’s no surprise that we would have to share with you the benefits of doing yoga.
Thousands of years old, yoga started off with just simple poses. With many ties to Hinduism, there is a lot of focus placed on the breathing and focus of mind. The original intent of yoga when it was still in it’s Eastern origins was to connect with ones self on a deeper level – to provide a deeper spiritual experience for the practitioner. Fast forward to today in our Western society and yoga is the new fad for people looking to lose weight fast.
Although many people use yoga to lose weight, there’s a lot of healing that can take place. Especially using yoga for hip pain. The main reason you see healing properties from practicing this sport is the stretching. Many injuries (primarily sport related ones) take place due to improper stretching and warming up of muscles.
Yoga consists entirely of the extensions and contractions of muscles, thus allowing you to gain more control. For those of you that experience a hip pain from running you will find that tying in some yoga poses before or after will be very beneficial to your health. If you search online there are many different poses ranging from the most simple to advanced that you can try.
Most are pretty straight forward but there are, of course, a couple that we would like to recommend to those of you using yoga to heal your hip pain.
The Simple Warrior Pose
The most straight forward yoga pose of all, but our favorite. By standing in this position you are placing your body into a state of perfect balance, allowing you to completely stretch the muscles that are causing you pain. As you know from out hip pain exercise article, the hip flexors are very important to use and work out so make sure you are hitting them with this pose.
Hero Pose
A less known pose, the hero pose – is great for giving your hard to reach hip muscles a much needed stretch. By starting off on all fours in the cat pose and bringing your rear end down towards your ankles you will be in the hero pose, please find a resource online illustrating the process in order to ensure that you are doing the procedure correctly.
If you are unfamiliar with either of the poses, make sure that you are doing them right. There are tons of great websites dedicated to yoga. Another suggestion we can make is to watch some YouTube videos outlining the poses procedures. By double checking and ensuring that your form is right you will definitely hit the right muscles and will prevent injury. Wouldn’t it be a shame to hurt yourself trying to fix a pain your having?
There are several other poses that are great, so don’t limit yourself. Check out different ones and find the best ways to cure your running hip pain.
